Computer Instruction/Use

Students in grades 4-8 have accessible computers in the classroom. Students in grades 5-8 often receive touch-typing instruction in small groups.  Students are also taught the basics of word processing and spreadsheets on Open Office.  These skills are put to use when students independently use the computer for various assignments, including Writer’s Workshop, science, social studies, Spanish, and even math.

Research shows that our youngest TLC students need to spend a minimal time, if any at all, with “screen” activities (including television, computers, etc.).  Therefore, classrooms with younger students are left intentionally computer-free.
