Art Show

Posted on March 1st, 2012

Students in grades 4-8 were pleased to share their art and research projects centering around Black Mountain College. Starting in November in Social Studies Art classes, 4-8 students learned about different BMC artists and created their own artwork emulating the different artists: Josef Albers, Robert Raucshenberg, Robert Motherwell, Jacob Lawrence, and Willem de Kooning. In Social Studies classes, students learned about the history of BMC through reading, videos, a tour on our campus (originally Black Mountain College), visiting Asheville Art Museum, and conducting research at the BMC Museum. For the art show, students displayed not only their collection of abstract paintings, but also informational boards about the artists and history of BMC. The project gave students the opportunity to learn about the modernist art movement while also learning the history of where they go to learn everyday.
